Mac Pro – big changes coming later this year?

Apple have made the unusual move of announcing the release of a new product well before the anticipated launch. Since its introduction in 2013 the stunning looking Mac Pro has sat unchanged in the Apple line up.

In 2013 The Mac Pro was a huge leap from the traditional pro machines from Apple. A much smaller form factor coupled with limited internal upgrade options caused some concern amongst many traditional Prosumer users. The Mac Pro uses it’s many ThunderBolt IO ports to add storage and other peripherals.

Along with the new Mac Pro Apple are set to release a replacement for the much loved Apple Thunderbolt Display which was discontinued in 2016.

Phil Schiller – Apple’s Marketing Chief has said:

“As part of doing a new Mac Pro – it is, by definition, a modular system – we will be doing a pro display as well. Now you won’t see any of those products this year; we’re in the process of that. We this it’s really important to create something great for our pro customers who want a Mac Pro modular system, and that’ll take longer than this year to do.”

A modular pro machine will be a welcome addition to the line up. This will give a better choice for customisation and options for the CPU, GPU and internal storage.
